In general, I don’t think so. In fact, surgical maggots have been used as debridement agents in human wounds to remove necrotic tissue. They are extremely efficient, and eat only the dead tissue. If I had a condition for which they were indicated, I would not hesitate. In fact, I would demand their use. They do a better job than surgeons can do with scalpels because no living tissue is damaged in the process.
